It’s a holistic approach

Last week I enjoyed speaking at a Women’s Wellness Event where I had the opportunity to share insights on the significance of movement and its impact on overall health and well-being.

It’s a holistic approach

My piece followed a lineup of a Functional Medicine Specialist, a Nutritionist and a Yoga and Breath work coach.

Of course I spoke on movement!

… the importance of healthy movement to move away from pain.

Each speaker delivered a quick fire session, each packed with some super relevant info to take away.

As I was listening to these rapid sessions, I was excited to see how even in this short time frame, the relevance to movement and health was apparent:

  • Dr Annelize Meyer, championed a holistic approach to health and well-being, tailoring solutions to individual needs. This approach resonates with The Healthy Movement Programme, which similarly acknowledges the various factors influencing ongoing pain and emphasises personalised management strategies for optimal results.
  • Dominique, the nutritionist, talked about the importance of gut health and how some simple changes to diet can influence gut health e.g. incorporating cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage, broccoli and brussel sprouts significantly impact gut health as they are a great source of prebiotic fibre. Poor diet and the knock on effect to gut health is an underlying factor in chronic musculoskeletal pain. As pain influences how we move - it’s food for thought!
  • Jane explored yoga and presented the importance of breath. Our breath patterns change with pain. Diaphragmatic breathing becomes less of the norm - we tend to breath more in our upper chest and this influences ongoing back and neck pain. Simple diaphragmatic breath work can be a game changer for people with ongoing pain and something many of my clients find super helpful.
